By Worldview Magazine.
The Executive Chairman of Gashaka Local Government Area, Honourable Umar Yusuf, has described the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas as a Governor who is working tirelessly, day and night to put Taraba on the podium of the most developed states in the country.
Honourable Umar Yusuf said this on the occasion of the 7th day prayer on the demise of the late octogenarian Alhaji Saidu Turaki Gangumi, Jauro of Gangumi Ward, in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The Chairman pointed out the free education policy of the Governor, the peaceful atmosphere in the state, massive renovation of dilapidated structures, sense of belonging to traditional rulers, among other reform packages, as some of the steps that Governor Agbu Kefas is taking to make Taraba, a better state for all.
Honourable Umar Yusuf eulogised the leadership virtues of the late Jauro, Alhaji Saidu Turaki Gangumi, asserting that his reign, which spanned across many decades, has brought peaceful existence between tribal communities, as well as rapid economic development in the area.
“The Late Jauro is a father to all of us. Among the Chamber Dakka, he was the oldest. He has been the leader of this Palace as Jauro for many decades. His son is the District Head of Gangumi area entirely. So the loss of this Jauro has touched us so much. You can see how people are trooping from far and near and from all walks of life to condole with the family. This shows you the kind of person he was and the type of relationship that he built with people around him. His demise is a great loss, not only to Chamba Dakka, but also to the Gashaka community in particular and Taraba State at large.
“He left behind uncountable legacies. He united our people. What a peace lover he was. He ensured our children go to school. He is a person we cannot forget in a hurry. That’s why I had to come this far, to show my concern over this great loss.
While condoling with the family, Honourable Umar Yusuf, who is fondly call Aluran Gari, meaning the solution provider of Gashaka Local Government Area, said he is consoled by the fact that the late Jauro has left behind many children, among whom is the District Head, Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu Turaki.
“We know Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu Turaki. He is a prudent man. Like his father, he is very peace loving and progressive minded. He has the capacity to leverage on the legacies of his late father in making Gangumi community a better place for all.
“We are now in his Palace and you can see how people are coming in to condole with him. We are confident that he can do better than what his father has done. We pray that God will help him.” He stated.
The Chairman appreciated the peaceful nature of the people in Gashaka, whom he described as the most peaceful local government in Taraba, even as he encouraged them to sustain the tempo.
Meanwhile, son of the Late Jauro, who is currently the District Head of Gangumi Ward, Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu Turaki, appreciated those who stood by the family in their moment of grief.
He spoke with our reporter in an exclusive chat.
“I thank everyone for standing with our family and the people of Gangumi Ward over this irreparable loss. It is a sad moment indeed. All the same, I am happy by the way people are coming here in numbers to share with us, this shows that we are connected with the people and people are with us.
“I want to use this medium to call on my people to live peacefully with one another, because it is peace and harmony that bring growth and development. Without peace, there will be no development. So please let tolerate one another and live in harmony.” He Said.
The District Head appreciated the Lamdo Gashaka, HRH Alhaji Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo, as well as the Chairman of Gashaka Local Council, Honourable Umar Yusuf, for their purposeful leadership in Gashaka Local Government and beyond. He appealed to both farmers and herders in Gangumi District, to live in peace with one another, adding that, both of them need one another for survival.
HRH Abdullahi Saidu Turaki was appointed District Head of Gangumi by the then Lamdo Gashaka, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hamman Gabdo Muhammad Sambo, when his father was the village head. When the late Lamdo wanted to upgrade the throne to District Head, his father requested that his son, Alhaji Saidu should be crowned instead, because of ailing health and old age.
The late Jauro Saidu Taraki Gangumi died on the 5th January 2024 and has since being buried according to Muslim rites.
