Taraba Hallow Chamber honours Gov Agbu’s proclamation, dissolves 9th assembly

The Taraba State House of Assembly has honoured the proclamation of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Col. Agbu Kefas (rtd), and dissolved the state’s 9th Assembly.

This followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Captain Dauglas Yahaya Ndatse (rtd) Member representing Donga Constituency at the Wednesday Valedictory sitting.

The motion which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mohammed Bashir of Ngoruje Constituency, was unanimously voted by all members at the sitting there by bringing the Taraba State 9th Assembly to an end.

Addressing the House during the valedictory sitting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bonzina Kizito stated that the the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, in Section 105(1) stipulates that, “a House of Assembly shall stand dissolved at the expiration of a period of four years commencing from the date of inauguration of the House”.

The speaker who said the dissolution of the House was in compliance with the provisions of the constitution, added that section 105(3) of the constitution, also empowers the Executive Governor to issue a Proclamation for the holding of the first sitting of the House or its dissolution which the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Lt Col. Agbu Kefas (rtd) had done.

While recounting some of the things the House was able to achieve, the Speaker noted that the 9th Assembly was able to processed over 40 Bills and Executive Orders for passage and assent by His Excellency the Executive Governor.

He said the Bills and Orders which were being implemented to facilitate governance and bring down dividends of democracy to the people were in the various socio-economic and political aspects of human endeavours.

The speaker appreciated members of the House for the confidence reposed in him to be unanimously elected to preside over the last lap of their sessions.

He described the four years journey of the 9th Assembly as successful, despite some occasional unpleasant happenings in their relationship with the other Arms of Government.

“The four years journey of the 9th Assembly can be said to be successful. This is in spite of some occasional unpleasant happenings in our relationship with other Arms of government.

“On the whole, Honourable Members have continued to demonstrate their maturity, patience and tolerance in performance of their constitutional roles of lawmaking, representation and oversight; this is highly commendable.

He applauded his predecessors and the Honourable Members who would not be part of the 10th Assembly, maintaining that he was saddened by the fact that only a handful of them that would be returning for the 10th Assembly.

Meanwhile, members took turns and spoke passionately about their experiences in the House of Assembly over the years, advising the incoming members of the 10th Assembly to work assiduously as a team and to regard the other Arms of government as partners in progress, and not to engage in grandstanding and brickbats.

The House of Assembly was adjourned to reconvene on Friday, 2nd June, 2023 for inauguration of the 10th Assembly and election of new leadership.
