Rotary Club: Schools receive boost as district governor visits Taraba

It was quite a joyful moment for the students of Jauro Marshi and Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary Schools Jalingo, Taraba State last Friday when the District Governor, District 9125 of Rotary Club International, Dr. Goddy Nnandi with his entourage stormed Taraba State as part of their official routine visits across the various states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
The District Governor who landed at the Dababa Suntai Airport Jalingo, was warmly recieved at the airport by officials and members of Rotary Clubs in Jalingo.
From the Airport, he briskly proceeded in a most honourable convoy, to Jauro Marshi Government Day Secondary School, the adopted school for Rotary Club of Jalingo City, where he commissioned over 25 modern dual desks donated by Rotary Club of Jalingo City and the over 100 exercise books donated by Rotaract Club of Jalingo Community Base to the school.
The governor at the event, also affirmed a donation of 450 thousand naira earlier presented to the school for the registration of 15 female students of the school for their certificate examinations by the Rotary Club of Jalingo City.
Similarly, he proceeded to Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary School, the adopted School for Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige, Where he commissioned a complete renovated full block of classrooms and the over 25 dual modern classroom desks donated to the school by Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige.
The Governor at the school also affirmed the over 30 trees planted within the school premises by the Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige to help tackle global warming and climate change aside the over 100 books donated by Rotaract Club of Taraba State University for the students of the institution to ease learning.
Addressing journalists shortly after his touch with the schools, the District Governor appreciated the various efforts that Rotary clubs in Jalingo had been making towards improving the well being of the generality of people in the state and encouraged them to do more.
“The efforts the clubs are making are highly impressive. They are creating a conducive environment for learning to take place in the various institutions in the state. I want to appreciate them for these all important efforts. I have seen the renovation of a classroom block and planting of trees at the premises of Salihu Dogo Secondary School to create a conducive learning environment for the students.
“They had paid the registration fees of 15 students of Jauro Mashi Government Day Secondary School. They had presented over 50 modern desks and over 200 books across the two Secondary Schools of Jauro Mashi and Salihu Dogo Government Day Secondary Schools to ease learning and to create a conducive learning environment for the student.
“These are the very areas we intervene. We have situations where very intelligent students could not go beyond Secondary School because they could not pay their tuition fees or register for their final examinations. We had intervened in several states and most of such students are now doing well in different fields of human endeavour.
“We are doing these not because we have all the money in the whole world. It is just service above self. We do take from what we have and what others contribute to help others who could not help themselves. We want to use this opportunity to call on the people of the state to join the Rotary club or contribute maximally towards serving humanity. You must not necessarily be a member to be useful”. He added.
Harping on the various efforts Rotary Club International had been making towards developing and improving the standard of living across the country, Dr. Nnadi said the club had variously intervened in the areas of Agriculture, health and education among others, adding that through the efforts of Rotary, many people who had gone blind are now seen.
Earlier in their separate comments, the President of Rotary Club of Jalingo City, Rotarian Sylvester Danjuma and his counterpart, President of the Rotary Club of Jalingo prestige, Hon. Ahijo Musa, all maintained that the kind gesture demonstrated by the clubs was born out of the desire to attend to the various plights of the less privilege in the society and to improve the general well being of the generality of people of the state.
Rotarian Sylvester Danjuma, appealed to the beneficiary schools’ managements to take proper care of all the stuff donated by the clubs to their various institutions and to ensure that they are suitably and judiciously used to achieve the desired aims.
On their parts, the principals of the two institutions who were overwhelmed with joy with the kind gesture demonstrated by the Rotary clubs, applauded them for the various empowerment programs they had earlier executed in the schools and appealed that the good relationship between their schools and the Rotary clubs be sustained.
The Principal, Jauro Mashi Secondary School, Mrs Cicilia Micah Madaki particularly identified the skill acquisition programs including hair dressing, cake baking and tailoring among others as well as the 450 thousand naira presented to her school for the registration of 15 female students for their final examinations as some of the wonderful projects earlier executed by Rotary Club in the school that would not be easily forgotten.
The principal who challenged the students to reciprocate the kind gesture of the clubs by studying hard to pass their examinations with flying colours, further drew the attention of the clubs to the desire of her school to have a laboratory and a school library and craved their indulgence to consider it in their subsequent allocation for educational projects.
