World Environmental Day: CEO ITEC tasks Tarabans on consistent sanitation.

As Taraba State, Monday joined the entire world to commemorate World Environmental Day, the Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Technical Engineering Construction (ITEC) LTD, QS. Tusse Aondona Suleiman, has charged Tarabans to imbibe the culture of embarking on regular sanitation of their environments in order to keep Taraba State Serene and clean.

QS Tusse gave this task to the people of Taraba State while speaking with journalists at the occasion of the celebration of World Environmental Day in Taraba, a four days programe which was sponsored by his organization.

The Chief Executive Officer who maintained that cleanliness is next to Godliness, advocated that the Taraba State Government should set aside a State Environmental Day in every month of the year, to enable workers and other citizens of the state embark on general clean up of their environments so as to get rid of waste products that are some times inemiçal to the general well being of the people.

QS Tusse said as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of his Organization, the ITEC LTD in partnership with other Non- Governmental Organizarions (NGOs) both within and outside Nigeria, had variously intervened in several ways through its 3 R’s of Waste Management which include team REDUCE, team REUSE, and team RECYCLE to tackle so many environmental challenges.

“The theme of this year’s World Environmental Day is ‘Serene Taraba Projects’. We aim at enlightening the people on environmental related issues. We started this four days celebration on Friday with a grand rally to create awareness. On Saturday, we embarked on general clean up of Jalingo metropolis.

“There was a basket ball competition on Sunday to send a message of awareness to the people and today we are planting trees in strategic positions to beat air pollution, control erosion and deforestation”. He added.

While collaborating the views of the CEO ITEC LTD, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Town Planner Jonah Fibon, encouraged Tarabans to try as much as possible to plant at least a tree every year to help preserve some species of trees that may go into extinction.

The permanent Secretary who also called on the people of Taraba State to always keep their environment clean, expressed his ministry’s determination to ensure a Serene and clean Taraba at all times through innovative programmes and partnership with reputable organizations.

“The Taraba State Government, through the Ministry of Environment is not resting on its oars to ensure a Serene and clean Taraba. Today as you have seen, we have gone round to enlightened our people on environmental issues and to plant about 150 trees in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital.

“These trees are for posterity, they will controll erosion, deforestation and will also beat air pollution to keep our environment healthy. We had earlier done a lot in this regard and we will continue to do it as a ministry to ensure that Tarabans are healthy”. He stated.

The General Secretary, Community Development Service Unit of the Nigeria Youth Service Corps, Lucky Ruben, expressed dissatisfaction with the mode of sanitation in Jalingo town and called on relevant authorities and agencies to intensify awareness and sensitization programes in this regard to ensure a clean Taraba.

Corp Ruben also appealed to the Taraba State Government to set aside a day in every month of the year for a general clean up in the state in which all relevant authorities would be on ground to ensure that people faithfully observed and honour it for the purpose, adding that sustaining a clean environment is every body’s responsibility.

Our reporter who monitored the celebration reported that the Taraba State Ministry of Environment in partnership with ITEC LTD had apart from cleaning up gutters and disposing waste products in different locations of Jalingo metropolis, planted Umbrella trees, Step trees and Mahogany trees totalling 150 in strategic places including the State Secretariat.
