In an overwhelmed joy before brethren and men of God at the church, the young academician shared testimonies of God’s benevolence over the journey of his life.

“Brethren I just have to thank God because the journey of my life has not been an easy one. But I know, there is no victory without a fight. I come from a ruling family but I tell you, my family was very poor.

“During my Secondary School days, I had to sell fire wood, birds and engage in order petty businesses. I sometimes go as far as farming for people to get some ‘chicken change’ to enable me sustain my living and progress with my school.

“I got married very early but that did not stop me from furthering my education. When I finished my Diploma programme, it was as if I would stop from there owning to the numerous demands on me from my wife and my children. I proceeded for my B.sc and later for Master’s Degree and Phd.

“I had worked in the College of Agriculture as a lecturer for 13 years during which I always try in my little way to put the college in a most desired position.

“Hence, I had on an individual level, embarked on planting of trees around the school. Despite all the criticisms and other challenges, I incurred from my colleagues at the college, I was able to plant two hundred coconut trees around the school.

“In all my dealings, God has been faithful to me and my family. He has once again, proven his faithfulness to us by giving me this position. We owe him thanks and adoration.

“I also appreciate the commitment, encouragement and support from my parents because those are some of the things that made me what I am today”. He narrated.

While interacting with press shortly after the thanksgiving, Dr. Garjila stated that the position of the provost which he had attained was advertised and 11 of them contested for it.

He said a committee was set up for screening and they were eventually invited for an interview where he scaled through with two other contestants. The three names according to him, were forwarded to the Governor for a final approval and lo and behold, the Lord God had done it for him.

Earlier in a sermon at the thanks giving service, the Guest speaker, Rev Isaiah M. Jirapye, who doubled as the CAN chairman and President of the CRC-N, admonished believers to wait patiently on God no matter the situation they are passing through.

Making reference to the celebrant, Dr Yakubu Garjila. Rev Jirapye explained that, waiting on the Lord entails been quiet before God, setting oneself aside and having faith that God will always do as He has promised in his own time.

The Clergy noted that the reason things don’t go as people planned was because most times, people don’t wait on the Lord for the appointed time.

He urged believers to always remain patience with God, especially that what patience does not give, impatience will not do either.

Meanwhile, the thanks giving service was graced by many dignitaries including Government Functionaries, traditional leaders and other special guests.
