TSU Matriculation: 980 lost admissions over failure to present selves for matriculation

Nine Hundred and eighty students who were duly given admission to study different undergraduate courses at the Taraba State University, Jalingo have lost their admissions following their failure to present themselves for matriculation at the 12th matriculation ceremony of the institution.
The Vice chancellor of the university, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe disclosed this development at the occasion of the 12th matriculation ceremony of the university held at the public square of the institution last Wednesday.
The Vice chancellor stated that the institution had admitted 5,870 students out of which 4, 890 registered and took matriculation oath leaving surprisingly the 980 students who could not either registered or present themselves for the matriculation.
He stated that by university tradition, the 980 students who had failed to present themselves for the matriculation have lost their admissions into the institution because matriculation is the actual induction and oath taking to verify that one has become a bonafide student of an institution.
The Vice chancellor said
“If you have not registered and gone through all the processes of a university and as well failed to take the oath, it means you have lost the admission because matriculation seals off the processes of admission and registration. We do not know why these students have decided not to turn up for the matriculation but we are actually not happy about it”. He stated.
Professor Tenebe who congratulated the matriculated student said they had gotten a rare privilege to study in one of the best universities in the North Eastern Region and so they should use the opportunity wisely.
Accordingly, he advised them to shun cultism, examination malpractice, thuggery and all other forms of anti-social activities so that they would not risk been expelled from the school.
While highlighting the giant strides made by his administration to enhance learning and ensure effective administration of the institution, the Vice chancellor said the university has provided new outstanding structures and has employed over one hundred prprofessors and many other qualified lecturers into the different faculties of the institution as against the only three professors he met when he came in to the institution.
He stated that when he took over the university, the admission capacity was only 2700 but at present the institution has the capacity to admit 5870 students and is currently running over 70 programmes in different faculties of the institution.
He noted that the the faculty of Agriculture and faculty of Education which are adequately furnished and well equipt have also gone along way to distinguished the university among its equals.
The Vice Chancellor revealed that the university is now placed at position 63 out of the 264 universities in Nigeria assuring that in the next five years, it would be counted among the first 10 best universities in the country
He commended the Executive Governor of Taraba State Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Education as well as TETFUND for all their efforts especially in the area of funding, towards lifting the Taraba State University to such an enviable position at the moment and called on all members of the university community to always live up to their responsibilities to enable the institution achieve its set objectives.
