6 Brigade Troops Foil Robbery, Rescue Abducted Victims and Recover Weapons in Major Operations Across Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing Operations Peace Shield and Zafin Wuta, foiling an armed robbery attack, rescuing kidnapped victims, and recovering illegal weapons in a series of coordinated missions across Taraba State.

According to a statement issued on 7 December 2025 by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the latest string of operations underscores the Brigade’s intensified push against criminal activities ahead of the Yuletide season.

The statement noted that on 6 December 2025, troops deployed at Manya responded swiftly to a distress call indicating that armed robbers had barricaded the Manya–Takum Road, dispossessing travellers of their belongings.

Soldiers immediately launched a rapid clearance operation, forcing the criminals to flee upon sighting the approaching troops. During a subsequent search, the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The intervention restored normal movement along the route and prevented what could have been a violent attack on road users.

In another operation on 7 December 2025, troops at Kufai Amadu acted on credible intelligence after four travellers from Bauchi State were abducted while passing through Amadu Town on their way to Baissa in Kurmi Local Government Area. Preliminary findings revealed that the travellers, unfamiliar with the area, had stopped to seek directions when two of them, Mr Musa Danji and Mr Yusuf, were forcefully taken by the abductors towards New City.

Troops immediately launched an aggressive search-and-rescue mission. During coordinated bush clearance, two victims—Mr Yusuf Musa and Mr Muhammed Umar—managed to escape and were rescued by the soldiers. Search operations to locate the remaining victims are ongoing as the Brigade intensifies efforts to track down the perpetrators.

Similarly, on 6 December 2025, troops deployed at Iware conducted an intelligence-led raid at Garin Sambo, Tau Village in Ardo Kola LGA. The operation led to the recovery of two pump action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles and four Tecno mobile phones. Two suspects, Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda were arrested for alleged illegal possession of arms. The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Reacting to the series of successful missions, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the professionalism and gallantry of the troops.

He reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to sustain aggressive and intelligence-driven operations to eliminate criminal elements across the state.
General Uwa further assured residents, especially holiday travellers, of the Brigade’s heightened presence on major highways and in vulnerable communities to guarantee safe movement throughout the festive period.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue supplying timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.

The statement reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring that Taraba State remains peaceful, secure, and safe for all law-abiding citizens.
