NSCDC calls for calm, assures safety of children in Taraba Schools

The Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Taraba State Command, has called for calm and assured citizens of Taraba State that the command, would not relent in its efforts to ensure the safety of Taraba State school children and staff while in school.

The Commandant NCDC, Taraba State Command, Adamu Salihu gave the assurance when he visited the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin at her office in the State Secretariat Jalingo.

The visit came after the gruesome murder of a teacher, Mr. Bassey Sardauna Nkuphee, at GDSS Model Jalingo by an ex-student of the school. An act, the commandant condemned in totality.

While addressing the Commissioner, Commandant Adamu said he was in her office to finalize preparations for the swift take-off of the much-awaited Safe Schools Programme in the State.

The Commandant who emphasized the importance of immediate commencement of the Programme, stated that the gruesome murder of Mr Bassey would have been prevented if the Safe School Programme had taken off fully in the state.

“We have had some discussions in the past concerning the smooth take-off of the Safe School Programme, now I have come so that we can conclude all arrangements on the smooth take-off of the programme

“We want to believe that all stakeholders in the educational sector must work in tandem to ensure that the learning environment is safe for both students and members of staff in Taraba”, the commandant added.

Responding, the Commissioner of Education, Taraba State, Dr. Augustina Godwin noted that Dr. Agbu Kefas-led administration was ready to partner and collaborate with the NSCDC to ensure that the dream of providing a safe environment for learning in Taraba state is realized.

“We are ready to support your Corps in any way possible to secure our schools are safe so that our students and teachers will not live with the fear of criminals coming into the schools to attack them”. She said.

Meanwhile, both the Commissioner and the Commandant warn all criminal elements planning to attack soft targets like schools to desist from such act as any attempt on such targets would be crushed completely.
