Ensure you redeem your pledges – Taraba monarch cautions elected leaders

Jethro Yerga, Jalingo

As politicians who are elected into various offices await their Certificate of Return and subsequent swearing-in across the country, the Chief of Jen Chiefdom, Taraba State, HRH, Dr. Robert David Tankawa has cautioned elected leaders to ensure that they fulfilled the promises they made to electorates when they were seeking for the various elected positions when they eventually take over the various offices

The chief gave this caution in Jalingo while chatting with journalists shortly after receiving Staff of office from the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku as Third Class Chief of Jen Chiefdom.

He stated that most of the politician do quickly forget the struggles and pains their people go through to choose them among many qualified candidates during elections and so it was imperative to remind the newly elected leaders who won at the 2023 general elections to stay clear from such deceitful acts inorder to continuously win the heart of their people.

He emphasized that the elected leaders must be reminded that their Victory was an actualization of the voice of their people and so they should never derail from their desires.

“Our elected Officers must live up to their responsibilities and ensure that they fulfilled all the promises they made to their people which convinced them to vote for them.

“If they failed to fulfilled those promises, they may be taking a big risk of rejection by their people when ever they want to seek reelection or any other political position among their people.

“The people may use those promises against them. So the newly elected Officers must have these things at the back of their minds”. He added

While appreciating Governor Ishaku for installing him as Third Class Chief, the monarch further urged all the newly elected leaders to take a que from what the governor had done to the people of Jen as they embark on service to their various constituencies and subjects.

“The governor had promised us this appointment and he worked towards it. He had been patient, tolerating and kind with my subjects all through the process and today, he finally fulfilled the promise.

“We had struggled and cried for this appointment for long and today, the governor has fulfilled his promise of installing me as a third class king of Jen. In fact, we lack words to appreciate him”. It is best, if all elected leaders follow this trend of living by their words”. He stated.

The Monarch who pledged that he would work relentlessly to unite the people of Jen who are spread across different places in Taraba State and beyond, also encouraged the people to embrace unity and love for one another, maintaining that without unity, the Chiefdom would never make any meaningful progress.
